Terms of Service
Your agreement with Project Fluency
Effective: the day of the release
By creating an account or using Project Fluency (the “Service”), run by Project Fluency Inc., you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
When we make a change that matters, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Using the Service after that means you accept the change.
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the European Economic Area and the UK). If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you.
Project Fluency is a language-learning app. You talk with AI characters by voice and by text in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and English. You listen to stories, songs and films, play short games, and practice the mistakes you actually made. Some plans include live classes with human teachers.
The characters are AI. They can be wrong. They aren’t licensed teachers, and nothing they say is professional, legal, medical or financial advice. We don’t promise a particular result, level or certificate.
Keep your login safe, and don’t share your account: it’s for one person. You’re responsible for what happens under it. If you think someone else is using it, tell us at hello@projectfluency.com.
Project Fluency has three plans: Free, Tourist and Local. Each plan has usage limits on calls, messages, level checks and some features. The limits are set for each plan, may depend on how busy the Service is, and may change. The app shows you when you’re getting close to a limit, and the Plans screen shows how the plans compare.
Local is unlimited for normal personal use. To keep it that way for everyone, it has a fair-use limit, and we may slow down or pause use that looks automated, shared or abusive.
Free is for trying the Service: its call time is given once and doesn’t renew each month.
Calls that check your level don’t count against your conversation time. If a call or a level check fails because of a problem on our side, it doesn’t count.
Prices are on the Plans screen, in your currency where we can. You pay through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe on our website, depending on where you subscribe.
Plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. If a price changes, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before, and you can cancel before it applies.
Cancel any time from your account. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store’s subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep your plan until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
The first time an account buys a paid plan, it gets one 50-minute live class with any of our teachers. It’s once per account: renewals, upgrades, restores and later purchases don’t add another, and buying single classes isn’t a plan. If live classes aren’t offered in your language yet, we keep the class for you until they are. It has no cash value and can’t be transferred. If the plan payment is refunded, the Refund Policy explains what happens to the class.
Yearly plans are sold on our website only. You pay once for the year, and the plan renews each year until you cancel, like a monthly plan. The Refund Policy explains refunds for them.
Use Project Fluency for your own learning. Please don’t:
- harass or abuse anyone, characters and teachers included;
- try to extract, copy or reverse-engineer the AI or the app;
- resell or share access to your account;
- use bots or automated tools with the Service;
- get around limits, billing or security, or open extra accounts to do so.
Your conversations and your learning data belong to you. You let us process them to run the Service for you, and to use them, with anything that identifies you removed, to improve it. We don’t use your voice to train AI models.
Everything else in the app (the characters, their stories, the towns and games, the lessons, the software and the brand) belongs to Project Fluency Inc.
Your calls are recorded so you can listen back and practice your own mistakes (Rewind). How long we keep recordings, and how to delete them, is in the Privacy Policy.
We work to keep Project Fluency running, but we can’t promise it will never go down. The Service is provided “as is”, without warranties. We’re not responsible for outages caused by the services we rely on, by the internet, or by events outside our control. If a long outage affects your plan, we may extend it.
Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses.
You can delete your account at any time from Account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or abuses the Service. When an account closes, access ends; we keep only what the law requires.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you live somewhere whose consumer law gives you protections that can’t be signed away, you keep them. Questions: hello@projectfluency.com.

Privacy Policy
How we handle your data
Effective: the day of the release
- What you give us: your name, email, sign-in details (including Apple or Google sign-in), your languages, level and goals.
- What you do in the app: your calls (audio and transcript), messages, practice and progress, and the device and app information we need to run it and fix it.
- Payments: handled by Apple, Google or Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
To run your calls and the characters’ memory of you; to turn your mistakes into practice, including replaying your own words (Rewind); to manage your plan; to tell you what you need to know about your account; and to make Project Fluency better. We don’t sell your personal data.
During a call, your voice goes to speech and AI providers so the character can hear and answer you in real time. We keep a recording of each call with your account so you can listen back: for 7 days on Free, 30 days on Tourist and 90 days on Local, then it’s deleted. Short clips of moments where you made a mistake, a few seconds each, are kept so you can practice them; each is deleted once you’ve mastered that mistake, and never later than 90 days. Transcripts are kept for as long as your account is open, so the characters remember you.
We don’t use your voice to train AI models.
We use other companies for AI and language analysis, speech and voice, live audio, hosting and storage, payments, and error tracking. Each one gets only what it needs to do its part, and each is bound by a contract that limits its use of your data to providing that part to us. The current list of provider types is in the in-app disclosure you agree to at sign-up.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted, and recordings sit in private storage that only short-lived, signed links can open. No system is perfectly secure, but we take protecting your data seriously.
Recordings and mistake clips: as in section 3. Everything else stays while your account is open. If you cancel, we keep your account for 12 months so you can come back to it. If you delete your account (Account → Delete account), your personal data is deleted within 30 days. Anonymous, aggregated statistics may be kept.
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and to stop non-essential messages. Depending on where you live, laws like the GDPR (EU and UK) or the CCPA (California) give you these and other rights. Write to hello@projectfluency.com.
Project Fluency isn’t for children under 13 (16 in the EEA and UK). If you think a child has given us personal data, write to us and we’ll delete it.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you at least 14 days before it takes effect. Project Fluency Inc. · hello@projectfluency.com

Privacy & Data Practices
How we use AI — read the AI disclosure
This application uses third-party artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, voice synthesis, speech-to-text, and cloud infrastructure services to deliver real-time language learning experiences. These technologies enable voice-based conversation practice with AI-powered characters, adaptive learning recommendations, speech recognition and pronunciation analysis, conversation-level feedback, progress tracking, and personalized content generation.
To provide and improve these services, the following categories of personal data may be collected, transmitted to, and processed by one or more of our technology partners: (a) voice and audio recordings captured during conversation sessions for speech recognition, pronunciation analysis, speaker identification, and real-time conversation functionality; (b) conversation transcripts, text input, and message content for AI-powered learning analysis, personalized feedback generation, error correction, and adaptive content creation; (c) learning progress metrics, session history, assessment results, proficiency scores, and usage patterns to deliver recommendations, track performance, and improve service quality; (d) account identifiers, authentication tokens, device information, and subscription status necessary to deliver, maintain, and secure your account and subscription services; and (e) anonymized and aggregated usage analytics to improve application performance, monitor system health, and develop new features.
Depending on service availability, capacity, and regional requirements, your data may be processed by one or more of the following categories of service providers: for conversational AI, language analysis, and adaptive learning — Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google (Gemini), Mistral, and Meta (Llama); for voice synthesis, speech recognition, and audio processing — ElevenLabs, Amazon Web Services (AWS Polly/Transcribe), Google Cloud (Speech-to-Text/Text-to-Speech), and Microsoft Azure (Cognitive Services); for real-time audio and video streaming infrastructure — LiveKit, Agora, and Twilio; for cloud infrastructure, database services, content delivery, and edge computing — Supabase, Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare, and Vercel; for payment processing and subscription management — Stripe and Apple (via In-App Purchase); for analytics, performance monitoring, and error tracking — Expo (EAS), Sentry, and Amplitude. All service providers are contractually bound by data processing agreements (DPAs) that restrict the use of your data solely to the delivery of application functionality on our behalf. Your personal data is never sold, rented, licensed, or otherwise disclosed to third parties for their own commercial purposes.
Recordings of your calls are kept with your account so you can listen back: for 7 days on the free plan, 30 days on Tourist and 90 days on Local, then deleted. Short clips of moments where you made a mistake (a few seconds each) are kept so you can practice them, and are deleted once you have mastered that mistake, and never later than 90 days. Conversation transcripts and learning data are retained for the duration of your account to provide continuity of service. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by using the Delete Account feature within the application or by contacting support at hello@projectfluency.com. Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within thirty (30) days, subject to any legal retention obligations.
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our service providers maintain infrastructure. Such transfers are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including through the use of Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission or equivalent legal mechanisms, where required.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict certain processing activities; request data portability; and withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing conducted prior to withdrawal. Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom may exercise rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). California residents may exercise rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@projectfluency.com.
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), access controls, regular security assessments, and secure development practices. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we are committed to protecting your information using commercially reasonable safeguards.
This application is not directed at children under the age of thirteen (13), or under the age of sixteen (16) in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at hello@projectfluency.com and we will take steps to delete such information.
By consenting below, you acknowledge that you have reviewed these data practices and agree to the collection, transmission, and processing of your data as described herein and in our Privacy Policy. You may withdraw your consent at any time by discontinuing use of the application, deleting your account, or contacting support at hello@projectfluency.com. Withdrawal of consent may limit or prevent access to certain features that rely on third-party data processing.

Refund Policy
Our commitment to fair billing
Effective: the day of the release
If you’re not happy, ask for a full refund within 7 days of buying or renewing. After that we don’t give partial refunds; cancelling keeps your plan until the end of the period. Refunds go back to how you paid, usually within 5–7 business days. For App Store or Google Play purchases, Apple or Google make the refund; we’ll help you ask.
Yearly plans are bought on our website. Full refund within 14 days of buying or renewing; after that, no partial refunds, and the plan runs to the end of its year.
Duplicate charges, the wrong amount, or a charge after you cancelled: write to hello@projectfluency.com with your account email, the amount and the date. We’ll answer within 72 hours and refund any confirmed mistake in full, whenever it happened.
If the plan payment that came with your free class is refunded or charged back and you haven’t used the class, it’s removed. If you’ve taken it, nothing is taken back. If it’s booked but hasn’t happened, the booking is cancelled. A refunded plan doesn’t earn a new free class later.
